TC02: Nostalgic Wavs 01; Kairosclerosis; WLC010 Sciuridae Feels Swatch: tr.ee/Sciuridae-Feels_Swatch Hey this is Skwirl here to gab at you briefly about the records we have coming for this year’s thematic cluster! The theme is Nostalgic Wavs and each record has been linked to a concept under the rather large umbrella of nostalgia as a function of emotional attachment to memory. Our first record in the cluster is Sciuridae: a self titled record at the nexus between the Skwirl and Shīdo monikers and is our “Kairosclerosis” record. Kairosclerosis is the conscious realisation of happiness or bliss, which in turn inspires the mind to wish to truly live in the moment - to savour it - and ultimately to feel it ebb away. We’ve categorised it as Restorative, Present Unknowing on our Nostalgic Wavs chart (see below). tr.ee/WLC_Nostalgic_Wavs-Graphic Sciuridae is the squirrel family of rodent or as Shmuel (Ehye/hoyah) blessedly coined for me “the familial forms of [Skwirl]”. Making music is for me a very subconscious experience a large amount of the time - so much so that Skwirl and my ambient project Shīdo are defined not ultimately on genre characteristics but on the inner worlds and consciousness levels that accompany the sessions and spill out into the work. The pieces that comprise this record were recorded at the periphery of sessions for other records - often when fatigue of conscious action meets the internalised buzz of instinctive activity that the often tedious and repetitive rituals of electronic music making have burned onto subconscious flow states. They have also all come from a place of peace of mind and spirit, the conscious realisation of that peace and the desire to define that inner world with an artefact. The result is a record very dear to me - most likely because it represents a necessarily highly authentic vision of my inner landscapes in these special moments. “Sciuridae” is much more abstract and subconsciously devised than my Skwirl work but somehow more consciously constructed than much of my Shīdo work - it is both and neither.
