Our Vision
We are a community of diverse, anti-racist parents, students, teachers, and allies working toward the abolition of white supremacy culture in our schools. We stand for building a truly equitable District 28 that is inclusive, fully-funded, and culturally responsive and provides equitably-resourced schools for all students, including those that have been most historically marginalized within our communities. We envision a power structure in District 28 that continues the legacy of fighting for equity and racial justice by seeking out and advancing the voices and needs of traditionally marginalized persons in the district (including––but not limited to––BIPOC, LGBTQ+ folx, low-income families, multilingual learners, and students in temporary housing, in foster care, and with disabilities, regardless of immigration status). We recognize that families deserve a path towards real restorative justice (e.g., community building and healing, counseling over-policing, addressing implicit bias, and a safe climate of inclusion and growth over suspension and expulsion), and we employ its principles in our interactions with each other, our children, and our communities.
Our Mission
Recognizing the decades-long history of structural racism and white supremacy embedded in the planning, curricula, and funding of schools in our city, the anti-racist students, families, teachers, and allies in District 28 stand ready to continue the struggle for equity in District 28 through:

📌  Building relationships with families throughout the district to understand their needs and the needs of their schools and connecting local parents and students to city- and state-wide campaigns to bring more resources to schools and build equitable education.

📌  Partnering with city-wide equity in education organizations and coalitions in order to connect with other parents and organizations with a shared vision."

📌  Building a sustainable structure for equity advocacy and anti-racist, culturally responsive, enriching curricula, and restorative practices at individual schools in the district

📌  Promoting better, proactive, sustainable outreach to marginalized communities by school and district leadership.

📌  Influencing and putting pressure on elected officials to take action against institutional racism and in favor of educational equity and to seek input from underrepresented families and community organizations

📌  Consistently showing-up at city-wide/district-wide educational events in order to be voices for equity and anti-racism.
